A GENTLE, STABILIZING APPROACH TO PARTS WORK
PARTS WORK through IFS & TIST in Vancouver & online across BC.
YOU’RE READY TO LISTEN INSIDE
Parts work is a gentle and effective approach to shifting patterns of people pleasing, self criticism and overthinking. It works on the basis that all people have different “parts” of ourselves and that we can find more ease and clarity when we slow down and listen to the intentions of each part.
For example, if you have a decision to make about a relationship or a job, you might notice that parts of you want to dive right in. They’re excited and ready to go! While other parts of you might be hesitant and uncertain. There might also be parts of you that say you can’t do it, or that you shouldn’t try.
It’s really hard to make a decision when the brain is bouncing around from part to part. Parts work can help you slow down and gain clarity.
My Parts Work approach is informed by:

How PARTS WORK can help
How Parts Work works
Parts work honours the wisdom of all parts of ourselves, even the ones that cause pain and difficulty. It is understood that these parts learned how to do these jobs at a time they were really needed. We slow down and get curious about why these parts (critical, people-pleasing, overthinking etc) are doing what they’re doing.
01
What to expect
You can expect that it might feel a bit strange at first to think of yourself as having ‘parts’. When anxiety, overthinking, criticizing have become so familiar, it can feel both relieving and uncomfortable to think of them in this way.
02
How it can help you
Over time, as we begin to get to know these parts, we are more able to listen with curiosity. We are less likely to have them take us over, and we are more able to show up for ourselves. Eventually, we begin to trust ourselves more.

COMMON QUESTIONS
-
Fair enough. This framework can feel unfamiliar at first. What we’re basically doing with this language, is talking to different sections (neural networks) in your brain. ‘Parts’ simply gives us a shared language to do this.
-
Yes. TIST in particular is designed with trauma survivors in mind. This approach is stabilizing and helps to make sense of inner experiences that sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming.
-
No. Everyone works with parts in different ways. Some people like to visualize, some people like to talk about the thoughts that occur when a part is around, some people like to draw or use a sand tray. We have many options and can work together to find what works best for you.
-
No. In parts work, "parts" refers to different aspects of your personality, emotions, or coping strategies that everyone develops over time. Recognizing and working with parts does not mean you have Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). DID is a specific and relatively uncommon condition involving significant dissociation and distinct identity states. Parts work can be helpful for many people, regardless of whether they have a dissociative disorder.
